How We Approach Editing
From big-picture structure to final polish, we help you sharpen your writing without flattening your voice. We promise editing that focuses on clarity, intention, and professional precision.
Every draft needs editing support, but not the same kind. Before we begin, we assess what will strengthen your work most—structure, flow, clarity, precision, or final polish. That might mean a structural overhaul, a sentence-by-sentence tune-up, or a grammar and consistency check. Here’s how we break it down.
The Four Levels
- Developmental Editing — Meaning, purpose, believability, thematic clarity, emotional logic, and the core ideas the reader should walk away with.
- Structure — How the material moves and how the reader experiences it—pacing, flow, narrative logic, and overall clarity.
- Line Editing — Sentence-level craft—voice, rhythm, tone, clarity, and style—shaping how your writing feels on the page.
- Copyediting — The technical correctness of the writing—grammar, usage, and consistency—clean, correct, and ready for formatting.
Proofreading is the final inspection of the typeset pages—correcting missed typos, punctuation slips, spacing issues, and layout or formatting errors. It does not rewrite sentences, fix clarity, adjust tone, or clean up manuscripts. We only proofread books we typeset.
